This program provides core courses specifically designed to build a strong foundation, enhance research competency, and train students to communicate with impact in order to achieve academic success.
Generally, these compulsory courses are divided into three main components:
BBS5901: Research Methodology & Seminar (Proposal)
Focus: Teaching methodologies related to scientific research.
Content: Literature search methods, preparation of research/grant proposals, ethics and misconduct in research, as well as laboratory safety.
Output & Evaluation: Research Proposal.
BBS5905: Scientific Writing in Biotechnology
Focus: Training students to effectively present their scientific data and write high-impact scientific articles.
Content: Writing review papers, research articles, short communications, theses, etc., alongside an introduction to various data presentation methods.
Output & Evaluation: Comprehensive Literature Review / Review Paper / Research Article.
Seminar Course Series (SPS & BBS Codes) Students will be guided on the correct research presentation formats and styles through four course options based on their level of study:
SPS 5903: Master Seminar (Proposal)
SPS 6903: PhD Seminar (Proposal)
BBS 5903: Master Seminar (Final)
BBS 6904: PhD Seminar (Final)

This guide provides an essential step-by-step framework for postgraduate students to plan their course registration throughout their duration of study. The process is divided into three main phases:
01. Every Semester
All postgraduate students are required to register for one of the following research courses every semester:
SPS5999: Master Research OR
SPS6999: PhD Research
Credit Requirement: Minimum 6 credits and maximum 12 credits per semester.
02. First or Second Semester (Compulsory Courses) Students must take and complete these two core courses at the beginning of their studies:
BBS5901 (Research Methodology and Seminar - Proposal): Produces a Research Proposal as the final evaluation.
BBS5905 (Scientific Writing in Biotechnology): Produces a Comprehensive Literature Review / Review Paper / Research Article as the final evaluation.
03. Final Research Seminar Students are required to register for the Seminar (Final) according to their respective study timelines:
Master Students: In Semester 4.
PhD Students: In Semester 6.
Output & Evaluation: Presentation in a colloquium.
