Workshop on Basic Bioinformatics 2021 is a preliminary workshop to acknowledge laboratory officers on basic principles and practical techniques used in bioinformatics. The workshop directed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adam Leow Thean Chor (Head of Cell and Molecular Biology Department) was held for two days on 16 to 17 August 2021. This workshop that supposed to be held face-to-face was changed to virtual version on Zoom platform as Selangor was under Movement Control Order (MCO) Phase 1 during that period. There are six speakers/facilitators from Cell and Molecular Biology Department involved in this workshop which were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurulfiza Mat Isa, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mas Jaffri Masarudin, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mariatulqabtiah Abdul Razak, Dr. Nur Fatihah Mohd Yusoff, Dr. Nadiya Akmal Baharum and Miss Siti Nur Bahiyah Azmi (Postgraduate Student) whereas five participants participated were laboratory officers of Cell and Molecular Biology Department.

Learning methods were divided by two categories: lecture and practical that were done with three sessions each. The topics for lecture sessions were Introduction To Bioinformatics And Public Databases, DNA Sequence Alignment And Analysis and Molecular Evolutionary Relationship while for practical sessions were Access To Information From Databases, Sequence Analysis Using BioEdit And Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) and Phylogenetic Tree Analysis.

Overall, the workshop was indeed achieved the objectives as planned and organized successfully and received good feedback from the participants.
