The 1st Microbes Invention, Innovation and Ideation Challenge 2017 (MINIC 2017) was successfully held in Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences UPM. This competition involved 120 first year students taking BMY3101 and BMY3001 subjects under supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr Wan Zuhainis Saad, Prof. Dr Khatijah Yusof, Dr Asilah Ahmad Tajudin and Dr Amalia Mohd Hashim. The objectives of this competition are to encourage students to apply what they have learnt in class and translate it into innovation ideas to solve current problems. The students were required to present a poster and a prototype to explain their ideas.
Among the ideas presented are products to treat cancer, bioremediation, food alternatives and many more based on microbes.
14 groups were judged by 12 judges from UPM and UiTM. The frst, second and third place were won by Group 9, 3 and 13 respectively.
This activity is hoped to trigger and enhance student's passion in microbiology, as well as to encourage them to think out of the box to solve many current problems.
Congratulations to all winners!
