Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Biotechnology & Biomolecular Sciences has organized a Plant Tissue Culture Workshop on the 1st to 3rd of August 2017. It was held for the first time in the Faculty of Biotechnology & Biomolecular Sciences. The theme “A sustainable and competitive agriculture through in vitro culture” was chosen due to the increasing of interest in sustainable agriculture. A total of six participants from both academic and industry registered for this very intimate and hands-on workshop. During the three days workshop, the participants were exposed to the theories of plant tissue culture, basic techniques in conducting plant tissue culture including media preparation, aseptic technique and sub-culturing technique. The applications of tissue culture biotechnology in industrial and research perspectives have also been emphasized. Overall, this workshop has successfully trained the participant in conducting the basic techniques of plant tissue culture for the production of elite clones. In addition, this workshop provided a platform for the participants and the biotechnologists to interact and discuss the current issues regarding plant tissue culture.
