The Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Science (BioTech UPM) was established on 1 August 2004 which combines two departments, namely the Department of Biotechnology at the Faculty of Food Science and Biotechnology and the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology at the Faculty of Science and Environmental Studies. With the establishment of BioTech UPM, all activities involving biotechnology at UPM can be coordinated under one administration. Since its inception, BioTech UPM consists of four departments consisting of:
1. Department of Bioprose Technology 2. Department of Cell and Molecular Biology 3. Department of Biochemistry 4. Department of Microbiology
Each department offers core and elective courses as their respective department study programs. Apart from teaching, academic officers are also involved in research, weighing services and consulting. All academic officers at BioTech UPM are experienced and have extensive technical skills in their respective fields of expertise involving the field of Biotechnology. Current statistics, BioTech UPM has a total of 128 staff members including 72 Management & Professional Group (Academic), 7 Management & Professional Group (Non-Academic) and 49 Implementing Group. While the Academic Management & Professional Group consists of 13 Professors, 36 Associate Professors and 23 Senior Lecturers. BioTech UPM offers four academic programs at the Undergraduate level. that is
