Yang Shun Kai, a PhD student from the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology, had won the prize of Best Poster Presentation in the 33rd Malaysian Society of Pharmacology and Physiology (MSPP) Scientific Meeting 2019. The event was held at The Everly Hotel, Putrajaya, on 15-16 July 2019. MSPP is an annual joint event organized by University of Malaya, Malaysian Society of Pharmacology and Physiology and Controlled Release Society.
The competition was participated by 54 representatives from various universities in Malaysia. Yang Shun Kai presented part of his PhD project entitled “Lavender essential oil disrupts the bacterial membrane of carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae by inducing oxidative stress”. He currently works with multidrug-resistant pathogens under the supervision of Dr. Lai Kok Song. He hopes to mitigate the antibiotic resistance issue by discovering novel antimicrobials from natural products.
