Best Innovation In Teaching And Learning Practices' 2017 Competition

On 23rd October 2017, Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences has won the second prize in 'Faculty's Best Innovation in Teaching and Learning' 2017 competition. The competition was held in Mini Auditorium 1, Building of Deputy Vice Chancellor Innovation and Research, UPM.  The participation was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr Wan Zuhainis Saad, together with her team members from Department of Microbiology, FBSB; Dr Saila Ismail, Dr Eddie Chia Suet Lin, Dr Adelene Song Ai Lian and Dr Amalia Mohd Hashim.

Ten PTJs participated in this competition and many new innovations in teaching and learning were presented to the judges.

The team has presented 'Virtual Microbes', a teaching and learning approach that combined students from various local universities, namely USM, UITM, UKM, UM, UMT, UNIMAS and UPM as well as from overseas; La Trobe University, Australia and Lafayette Collge, USA. In the 'Virtual Microbes', the students from various universities were combined in a group to encourage peer learning. They were assigned to choose a microbe/pathogen of interest and present all the required information in a digital scrapbook or a literature review article. Interestingly, discussions between students are conducted virtually using 'ZOOM' tele-conference. This approach has attracted the juries and won the second prize, receiving RM 3000 and certificates.

Congratulations to Assoc. Prof. Dr Wan Zuhainis Saad and team!
